July 15, 2011 - BioLumix Introduces a new Bacillus cereus vial: Bacillus cereus is responsible for 5% of foodborne illnesses worldwide, causing severe nausea, vomiting and diarrhea. Detecting potential B. cereus as quickly and easily as possible is of paramount importance. A wide variety of foods including meats, milk, vegetables, and fish have been associated with the diarrheal type food poisoning. A new vial (BCP) was developed specifically for B. cereus detection in the BioLumix system. It uses the CO2 sensor at the bottom of the vial. The new BC vial recovers well vegetative cells as well as spores. The method used is very simple; just pipette the diluted sample into the vial. The results are obtained in 24 hours or less.

June 2, 2011 - BioLumix DMF Submission for Rapid Microbiological System Accepted by FDA: BioLumix announced today that the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) have accepted a BioLumix Drug Master File (DMF) entitled "Microbiological Rapid Method for the Detection and Enumeration of Microorganisms in Pharmaceutical Products". The DMF provides specific technical and regulatory information to the FDA which allows companies planning to use the BioLumix Rapid Microbiological System to obtain regulatory approvals for prescription drugs. Dr. Ruth Eden, President of BioLumix said, "The DMF can be referenced by drug manufacturers, reducing FDA review times and accelerating the regulatory approval process for use of the BioLumix System. In addition, Over the Counter (OTC) products can be tested in conjunction with the BioLumix Validation Package. The BioLumix DMF includes the information the FDA requires to assess alternative microbiological detection systems; such as, information about the technology, its accuracy, specificity, limit of detection, robustness, ruggedness, and equivalence to USP methodology." We are in the "service" business and customer satisfaction is essential to not only our growth but, our survival. We strive every day to meet and exceed our customers' expectations. During the past year we have doubled our customer base. As with most companies that enjoy this type of fast pasted growth there is always the chance for service to slide. March 11-13, 2011: BioLumix exhibited at this year's Natural Products Expo (supplyexpo.com). It was home for three days to the largest number of exhibits in its 31 years history at the Anaheim Convention Center in California, March 10-13, 2011. This year's event hosted 3533 exhibits and more than 58,000 members.

January 26, 2010: Technology news — BioLumix has been granted a new patent for the method of filling its membrane vials. The invention allows for sample monitoring without interference cause by product and microorganisms. This is achieved by separating the reading zone (where detections occur) from the zone were the sample and media resides.

January 2010: New product announcement — The ready-to-use Salmonella Assay Vial!
The Salmonella vial’s sensor detects production of CO2. CO2 generated by Salmonella metabolism in the liquid medium placed above the sensor, diffuses into the sensor and interacts with an indicator reagent to provide an indication of the presence of the carbon dioxide. The selective medium inhibits all gram-positive organisms and many gram-negative organisms. (read more... )

January 2010: Industry announcement — BioLumix is developing a new automated Preservative Efficacy Test (PET) for the cosmetic and toiletry industries. The fundamental principle of the microbial challenge (PET) is based on the concept of measuring the survival ability of selected microorganisms that are purposely introduced into a preserved test product system. The test product containing the inhibitory system is inoculated with the desired pool at the target level of bacteria (10^5-6 cfu/gram) and yeasts and molds (105-4cfu/gram). At the desired sampling interval (day 0, 7, 14 and 28 days) a sample is analyzed to determine the reduction in counts. The vial is tested on the BioLumix instrument for 22 hours for bacteria and for 48 hours for yeast and molds. The DT’s are converted to Log cfu/g. and the Log reduction is calculated. The main advantage of this method is the automation of the process and the labor savings that it offers. It was estimated that it takes ~ 1/5 of the labor to perform the BioLumix assay compared to the standard plate count method. The new BioLumix assay offers savings in time, labor, materials, and plate space. Please contact us today for a free product trial.

November 24, 2009:Technology news — BioLumix has been granted a new patent for its fluorescent technology. The new technology gives an instrument the ability to simultaneously monitor the fluorescence of multiple samples at the same time. This innovative design is one of the key technologies utilized in the BioLumix system.
